We recently spent a morning at The Field Berry Farm, a working raspberry farm in Johannesburg South, and while the farm is best known for its Raspberry Picking Festival from January to April, we visited in August for their Almond Blossom Festival - a lovely once-a-year event held over a few select weekends when the almond orchards burst into bloom. Booking in advance is essential as walk-ins are not accommodated and spots fill up quickly.

Walking Through the Blossoms

The almond orchard in full bloom was the real star of the morning - row upon row of pale pink and white blossoms against a bright blue Highveld sky. As we wandered through the orchard we stopped along the way to fold origami, which was a lovely, unexpected touch that kept the kids engaged as we walked.

Stamp Rally and Bird List

The farm had set up a stamp rally through the orchards and fields, sending the kids off on a bit of a treasure hunt to track down each stamping station. We also picked up a bird list at the entrance, which was a nice reminder to slow down and look up between blossom-filled photo stops.

The Prayer Garden

Tucked away on the farm is a small Prayer Garden, a peaceful spot we hadn't expected to find and one we really enjoyed exploring - a quiet contrast to the busier orchard walk and stalls. A space for quiet and contemplation.

Bike Track and Farm Stalls

The kids made a beeline for the bicycle track, which kept them happily occupied while we browsed the food stalls, including some delicious Japanese-inspired street food on the day.

It was a wonderful few hours so close to home, and a lovely reminder that you don't need to travel far to enjoy a beautiful outdoor family morning. We will definitely be back for the Raspberry Festival in season, and will keep an eye out for the Almond Blossom Festival dates next August.
